| Our dog and puppy training philosophy is based on
commitment, patience, and realistic expectations (CPR).
Commitment: A well-behaved dog is a
commitment that you make for the lifetime of your dog. Sometimes
that is a commitment of work time, like attending dog and puppy obedience classes
so that your dog knows its basic commands. Sometimes its just
the commitment of being with your dog, maybe skipping that weekend
away while your dog is adjusting to a new environment. Commit to
your dog and youll see the results.
Patience: Being patient while training
your dog will enhance your sessions, If you are not in a patient
mood, skip the dog and puppy training and play a game instead. It takes up to
30 days to build a working relationship with your dog; play as well
as worktime can help that process. Be patient with yourself as well
as with your pet, and take the time to bond with your dog.
Realistic Expectations: When you take
your child to her first day of kindergarten, you dont expect
her to come home with a working knowledge of calculus. Both people
and dogs need time to learn: nothing happens overnight. Take pleasure
in the small steps that you achieve and then build on them. Realistic
expectations will help you take pleasure in the progress that you
and your dog make together. |
